Quilts
Starting by sewing traditional pieced quilting patterns, I gained an understanding of how my appliqué ideas could be incorporated and constructed to make large format quilts. To keep the images interesting and engaging, I like mixing the appliques within geometrics.
The quilt entitled "Lily Pond" is an example of my larger work. This piece is inspired by Japanese quilting designs which use big blocks of beautiful fabric as negative space as well as visual direction. I have used my appliquéd images of pond life, as well as triangles and hexagons. The geometry creates water, light, shadows and motion. The patterns and colors keep your eyes interested while moving thru the piece.
